Rakel-Maria Niittyvuopio is known as Vaimu or Vaimu Design. She was last year's winner of Craftmanship Master and is now back to judge the competition!
I was introduced to cosplay in 2012, but it wasn't until the following year that I attended my first con.
I have tried out many different techniques and materials, but I mostly work within sewing and handicrafts. In addition to cosplay I also sew my own clothes and traditional Sami outfits (Gákti). I think it's very exciting to utilize techniques I learn from cosplay into my every day life.
What I like the most about sewing is forming the material I use. From draping on my sewing bust to making complicated calculations to figure out a complex pattern. The process of getting from one piece of fabric to a finished, wearable creation.
I have a bacherlor's degree in art science which absolutely helps me when it comes to analyzing and organizing my work. Every since I was a child, I have been interested in all things creative, and been active within arts and crafts. I also have a background in theatre and I've been active in several theater groups.
I have participated in several competitions and won some of them. I have also had lots of fun in the audience.
